“We’re not an autodialer” is not a strategy
A common vendor defense is semantic: “We’re not an autodialer.” Buyers repeat it. Everyone feels safer.

- Flag vulnerability signals (e.g., repeated failed authentication attempts, repeated cancellations)
- Recommend the right channel (SMS, email, call) based on customer history
This improves relevance without creating consent ambiguity.
Research and summarization (quietly transformative)
This is where I’ve seen the cleanest wins: AI that shortens prep time and reduces customer repetition.
- Summarize the last 3 interactions into a short agent-ready brief
- Extract commitments (“Customer requested callback after 3 PM”) into structured fields
- Generate compliant call notes and disposition suggestions for agent review
You’re increasing speed while reducing risk.
Post-interaction quality and compliance analytics
AI can strengthen compliance if you aim it at monitoring and coaching, not mass initiation.
- Auto-detect missing disclosures or risky phrasing
- Identify agents who skip consent confirmation steps
- Track complaint drivers and escalation triggers
- Audit for policy adherence across 100% of calls (vs. sampling)
In other words: make the compliance team’s reach match the contact center’s scale.
Human-led initiation for high-risk channels
If the interaction requires consent clarity, empathy, or nuance, keep human-led calling as the default:
- One-to-one agent initiation for outbound calls
- Clear scripting support, not voice impersonation
- Assisted workflows that help agents stay compliant
AI belongs in the co-pilot seat. The human stays accountable.
A practical AI compliance checklist (what to ask vendors)
If your goal is lead generation without adding legal exposure, you need procurement-grade questions, even if you’re moving fast.
Here’s a field-tested checklist for AI calling and contact center automation:
- Call initiation: Exactly what triggers an outbound call? Human click, workflow rule, predictive system, or time-based automation?
- Consent evidence: Where is consent stored, and can you export proof for a specific number in under 60 seconds?
- Disclosure controls: Can scripts enforce required disclosures? Are there prompts that prevent agents from skipping them?
- Audit logs: Are logs immutable and time-stamped? Do they capture model actions and workflow triggers?
- Carrier risk management: What measures exist to reduce spam labeling (velocity controls, number health scoring, drop-call prevention)?
- AI voice / synthetic speech: Is it used at all? If yes, how do you disclose it and control it?
- Customer preference management: Can customers set channel/time preferences, and does the system actually honor them?
- Fail-safes: What happens when the system can’t match a live answer to an agent? (This is where “dead air” is born.)
If a vendor can’t answer these without hand-waving, don’t “pilot” your way into risk.
A good rule: if your tool’s biggest metric is “more attempts,” you’re buying volume. If its biggest metric is “better outcomes,” you’re buying intelligence.

- Use AI to tighten the loop. Pre-call context, post-call learning, and continuous QA beat synthetic presence.
