Most contact centers are about to repeat an old mistake: giving a new automation tool “just enough access to be useful,” then acting surprised when it does something technically allowed but operationally disastrous.

That risk jumps in 2026 because agentic AI isn’t a chatbot that waits for prompts. A team creates a “quick fix” in a workflow builder, connects it to production data, and forgets to register it with security. No threat actor required. You’ve built your own blind spot.

5) Missing human-in-the-loop controls

The agent is meant to be supervised, but the queue gets busy and the “temporary” auto-approve setting becomes permanent.

6) Unintended data sharing

Agent drafts an email or chat message that includes sensitive fields (full account number, internal case notes, address history) because it pulled too much context from CRM.

The important detail is accountability. When this hits the news, the story won’t be “the AI did it.” The story will be “the company deployed it without controls.”

The real architectural shift: deterministic controls around non-deterministic intelligence

You don’t secure agentic AI by hoping it behaves. You secure it by constraining what it can do. That means separating:

  • Deterministic logic (rules, approvals, access controls, validations, audit trails)
